One time I was doing an outpatient program for PTSD and they lumped us in with the alcoholics and crackheads... A guy came up to me and said, mmm you look like a girl I used to baby sit.
I realized then ALLLL kinds of people need help and these big centers actually aren't safe.
I never imagined they'd take up space in one on one therapy too.
Working in mental health must be so hard. Thank you for what you do.

@EldritchFox that's so disturbing. I'm so sorry you experienced that. It really takes away from what spaces like this should be. Unfortunately, because it's full of people who are still grappling with themselves, they can sometimes drag others down with them which isn't okay at all. You deserved better💙
This reminds me of a past client who tried approaching me outside of sessions when I was with my niece and tried introducing me to his 3 year old daughter following sessions where he would try to get to know more about me. I say tried but he actually did and it felt inappropriate.
Even approaching another clients car which is a big no-no in a space where the women were there because of trauma related to sexual violence and surrounding issues. I had to confront him about this of course but it's definitely not a comfortable conversation when you're alone and behaviour is unpredictable.
As for this guy today? He was sexualising his own mother and fixated on how much he could share. It's like he was tryna test how far he could go rather than there being any truth to it.
Thanks girl🥺 All things considered, there's also been incredible people I've met. It's just some moments are unfortunately weaponised by opportunistic people.

@HijabaDabbaDoo I saw my therapist out trick or treating last year and said hello then ran lol it felt so inappropriate. I didn't want her to think I was being creepy.
Really you're on the front lines without a weapon, capstun, jurisdiction or any kind of defense besides being a smart cookie. You're helping and protecting and judgements must be made.
That sounds so creepy...
Do you feel like SW prepared you for these creeps?

@EldritchFox it varies. I've seen other clients out in public who have approached me and we naturally had a full blown conversation but it was a human interaction and former clients. There's something about it being a current client that can kinda blur the lines if it goes beyond pleasantries. There's no one formula here but I know it wasn't appropriate with him.
It's a different ball game on SW. There's exposure to disturbing content but I don't have to take it for more than what it is. I'm not on the clock, I don't have a responsibility to sit with their fantasies in the way I may have to with someone in person. I won't have to deal with him again though which I think is for the best rn. Thank you for the kind words💙
