💔 A British mother with more than 800 tattoos says she would accept almost any job... but employers refuse to look beyond her appearance.
Melissa Sloan has spent years covering much of her face and body with layers of ink. Some areas of her face have reportedly been tattooed several times, creating the striking appearance that now attracts attention wherever she goes.
She previously worked cleaning toilets and says she has tried to find similar employment again.
But according to Melissa, even cleaning companies have rejected her because of her tattoos.
🥹 “If someone offered me a job tomorrow, I would go and work,” she said.
Melissa claims strangers stare at her, businesses judge her before speaking to her, and ordinary activities have become increasingly uncomfortable. She has also said that her appearance affected her ability to attend some of her children’s school events.
Yet the story is more complicated than a simple tale of discrimination.
Melissa chose her tattoos and has continued adding new ones despite acknowledging the difficulties they created. There is also no independent evidence proving that every employer rejected her specifically because of her appearance.

Employers may expect workers to follow certain appearance standards, especially in public-facing roles. But should those standards prevent someone from cleaning, working behind the scenes, or supporting a family when their tattoos do not affect their ability to perform the job?
Melissa cannot undo years of decisions written permanently across her skin.
But she still believes she deserves the opportunity to work.
