So something scary happened in our apartment today. Do you find it scary too?
So today something scary happened for real. So we live in a 5-6 storeyed apartment in Munnekolala area of our city Bangalore in India. At around evening 5 PM, out of nowhere I heard a loud blast and it created a vibration in our flat (yeah in India, we call house as flat) too so yeah the impact was felt and a loud sound of utensils and glass breaking. Idk what happened and was wondering what was it like was it and LPG gas explosion (which is scary for real) or was it and earthquake or what was it. Later found out that in the 1st floor, in this flat their water geyser(yeah in India, we call water heaters as geyser) suddenly exploded which led of destruction in the house. A lot of things were broken due to the blast like the windows, some of the doors, things fallen around, utensils thrown etc. In fact I felt some of its impact as vibrations in my flat too which is literally in the 3rd floor.
It's really scary how deadly can a water heater/geyser burst can be. But no one was in the house(some bachelor guys live there tho) tho so yeah no one was harmed thankfully. But this Odia(from the Indian state Odisha) family who is from their neighboring flat said that the geyser was switched off and still it blasted which sounds scary but it's not possible. As the owner of the house wasn't there, no one can tell whether the switch was on or off. It's super unlikely tho for a geyser to burst if the switch is off as the geyser will be cooled down or inactive if switched off so it seems so unlikely. So yeah it's probably possible that the owner simply forgot to switch off the geyser before leaving so it exploded due to beyond capacity heat which created lots of pressure but it's just a possibility as idk exactly why it happened. But it's confusing because modern geysers have thermostats which automatically turns it off once the water becomes hot at the max capacity so usually if the thermostat is working fine, it should burst. Idk whether they use gas geysers which is more unsafe or whether their electric geyser's thermostat isn't working properly. I can't know the reason but it was so scary and i am worried that what if next time something similar happens and it affects our flat too.
