Nothing is wrong with being liberal. Just like nothing is wrong with being conservative. It's an ideology. One will be better than the other, but history will decide that.
What is wrong is dividing the nation up into identity politics groups, forcing everyone into your narrowly defined categories, and attacking anyone who steps out of their designated group for nothing more than political gain. That is what liberalism has become. What is also wrong is labeling anyone with a divergent thought as being an extremist, bigot, sexist, racist, whatever else -ist is popular that day so you won't have to tolerate any dissent. That is now the tool of liberalism, and it's almost to the point of being an exclusive tool.
I could give you examples for days. For both.

Of that, I have no doubt. I think that the American political machine is broken (I am not American, so I have less knowledge about this than I would like.)
