I am doing it in a gentle way because I do understand and I know shame will make alcoholism worse

But I also need to be firm.

People with problems are very good at dodging responsibility & taking advantage of kindness. May I suggest firmness first? But is there much you can do since he is paying rent to the market?

And yes, absolutely if he is at market intoxicated again I will ban him
