You were no accident. You are infinitely loved.
"My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them". Psalm 139:15-16
This passage is part of a larger psalm by David celebrating God’s omniscience (all-knowing) and omnipotence (all-powerful). It emphasizes that God has a personal, intimate knowledge of an individual's life, even before they are born.
This means that your life is not an accident, and neither are the details that make you who you are. Long before anyone else saw you, understood you, or even knew your name, God already knew every part of you—your strengths, your struggles, your beginning, and your becoming.
Even the parts of yourself that feel unfinished or imperfect were never hidden from Him. He saw you “yet being unperfect,” and still chose to create you with intention and purpose. Nothing about your life has caught Him by surprise. Yet, He still loves and cherishes you.
When you feel overlooked, misunderstood, or like your life has not turned out the way you expected, remember this: God has always seen the full picture. What feels incomplete to you is still in the process of being “fashioned” by His hands.
You are not unseen. You are not unfinished in the way you fear. You are being formed—just as you always have been—by a God who knew you completely before your story even began.
Take comfort today in knowing that your life is known, your story is written, and you are still being beautifully formed.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You know us completely and yet do not turn away from us. Before we were formed, You saw us, and every part of our lives is already known and held by You.
Thank You that being fully known by You is not a cause for fear, but a place of safety. You see every beginning, every season, and every step of our lives with perfect understanding and love.
For every reader of these words, may there be peace in knowing they are seen by You and never forgotten. Let Your presence bring comfort where there has been weariness, and hope where there has been discouragement.
Remind us that our lives are not accidental, and that what You begin, You faithfully carry through.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
God is all-powerful - Ps. 139:14-16. Our lives, the way we are, contain loving purpose. We are special to God. No wonder Satan works so hard to convince us that we are accidents; don't buy the lie. We should know better.
