Life is difficult.

M Scott Peck sums it up in that short 3 word sentence at the beginning of his book The Road Less Traveled.

As the train pulled in to the station this morning My friend ran up out of breath. She and her husband work in London commuting up everyday as they both are lab based scientists at different institutions. They've two kids under 10. His mother lives with them to help with the childcare. All in a small three bed terrace house. I feel guilty listening to her when I have an identical house to myself.

Our train conversation was sadly depressing today. Her moaning about family hassles. Reflecting on the news. She's had a problem at work and a load of stuff she worked with got contaminated and had to start again. The whole theme was "Why bother?". Are we making any difference in the world when others seem intent on destruction, spreading hatred etc.

It wasn't her fault but I've had to sit in a coffee shop and reset myself, restart the day with a gratitude list (which I should be more frequent at doing) and trying to get a positive outlook on life. But I will say with everything going on at the moment it's hard not to wallow in a depressive cycle.

I agree. You must grab onto the little things that make your day. World events drag you down.
