Whatever "extreme globalisation" might be....
Sociology was all the rage back in the 1960s and '70s, apparently seen as an "easy" way to obtain a Degree, any Degree, because it was the Done Thing to gain a Degree.
.... Then try to find employment.
It never seemed to have been anything more than academically interesting but of little practical value for career reasons, unless you wanted a career writing high-brow polemics.
