TL;DR: My husband and I no longer live on our own address due to conscription, and a while ago our pipes broke, which caused water damage to the apartment underneath ours, where our crazy neighbors live.
The head of the building recently told us that she appraised the damages to be worth around $100. She has seen countless flooded apartments in her time, so she should know what she's talking about.
The head of the building has told our crazy neighbors that they are going to get paid, that they're not going to meet my husband in person, and to just fix the damages for now.
This is everything that has happened:
1. Our crazy neighbors called the police and tried to make them break down our door, so I had to run there late evening.
2. Our crazy neighbors hired a lawyer and harassed the head of the building to the point where the head of the building had to block their number.
3. Our crazy neighbors hired an appraiser to unlawfully assess the damages without anyone else's presence, and then tried to make the head of the building sign the paper.
4. Our crazy neighbors called the conscription office to come and kidnap a poor old man who were fixing the floors in our apartment, but they couldn't conscribe him given he was 70 years old.
5. Our crazy neighbors got our phone number from the police, and call us every single day, likely trying to track our phone in case we accidentally pick up.
ALL THIS BECAUSE OF $100! Well, maybe $200, even $250 for the trouble. I thought we owed them $1000! The way they behaved, they truly had me think it was serious. The police took pictures of the damages in both apartments, so I doubt they can do anything to us legally. I think they want to get Slavik conscribed out of spite.
They are going to get their money when they are willing to accept it (and we will make sure there is proof that we paid so they stop blackmailing us), but currently they will only accept one million hryvnias lol.
