So this is how I used to feel in 2023 and why I changed now. Do you relate to it too?
So yeah in 2023 when I was 22 and freshly done with my Bachelor's in Engineering and starting my MBA, I used to often feel this way. Firstly about cars. I am from Siliguri in West Bengal in India but living in the city Bangalore in India since 2008. We have a Maruti Suzuki Baleno but in 2023 whenever we went out in our car, I used to feel Westerners will see out cars and laugh at them because our car has just 1.2L engine producing just 88-89 horsepower and similarly most Indian family cars by brands like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, even Toyota mostly(except the Fortuner and maybe even Innova) are only 60-120 horsepower because most Indian families prefer mileage over performance so the cars are underpowered here and not that powerful and doesn't have V6 or V8 or V12s here. Even though BMWs, Mercedes are common enough now in Bangalore, the family cars like Baleno, Swift, Etios, Wagon R, Celerio, Tata Punch, Nexon etc still dominates the streets which are often under 100 horsepower and some barely over 100. So I used to feel if a westerner sees the cars, they will be like "Indians only have cars for name sake but they are so underpowered so yeah they just have cars for the sake of it" whereas in abroad, cars are more powerful often.
Now coming to the dating part. In 2023 I was newly using dating apps like Hinge, Bumble etc and still a bit shy near women in person. But only Indian women were shown in the apps as I live in Bangalore in India which is obvious. But I also used to feel Westerners will probably feel like we Indian men only have Indian women as options whereas Westerners have multiple races of people to date so more options. Yeah it was just my insecurity at the time as I was less experienced with even talking to women. I used to just feel like westerners will judge us Indians for our cars and dating options as our cars are underpowered and we mostly have Indian women.
But things changed. At 23 after I finally broke out of shyness and started talking to women and exploring the Central areas of our city, my worldview changed. Now as a 25 year old man, I talk to even foreign expat women from multiple countries and nationalities and confidently approach Indian women too all around Central areas. I see many foreigners especially westerners in the area so I don't pedestalize westerners anymore. I talk to western women normally like human and greet foreign men too and I am much more habituated to bigger diversity now. I can talk to any woman now regardless of her nationality. Also in these Central areas like UB City, Lavelle road, Church Street, we can spot many high performance supercars and luxury cars like Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsche, Bentley, Maybachs, G Wagons, AMGs, BMW M models etc so I no longer feel that we only have underpowered cars but there are plenty of cool cars even here as well. So yeah what do you feel?
