I Can't Change the Past, and I Don't Control the Future.

I Owe Myself a Smile

I've spent too much time looking inward.
And much more staring at the past
As if I could define myself
With the things that didn't last

I've spent thousands of my hours
Worrying about what's to come
As if the worrying I did that day
Could change the things yet done

I need to get back to the Present
Because I think that's all that matters
I need to find a better way
Before all I am is tatters

I've wasted too much on my yesterdays
And even more upon my tomorrows
Which caused too many of my today's
To be consumed by all their sorrows

So now I'll find a better path
To get me where I'm going
Because I think that I deserve to laugh
And show a smile that I am owning.
