FML our apartment flooded and damaged the downstair neighbor's apartment, and now we have to give them a ton of money we don't have, to repair it.

As many people know, my husband and I have not been living in our own apartment for a little over a year now, due to conscription. We did turn off the water, but the remaining water in the pipes stayed.

My husband's uncle called us today, informing us that the head of the building told him that the police had been called and was going to break down the door, so we contacted the head of the building ourselves, to ask her to please try to stop them from doing so until I could get there with the key.

I practically ran the whole way, and thankfully our door was still intact when I got there. I met with the sweetest police woman who used google translate to communicate with me – she didn't seem too interested in trying to recruit my husband; she asked for my number and then the number of the owner of the apartment, and didn't press me about it when I said it's the same number.

Apparently our boiler was dripping, but if I understood correctly then the main issue was the valve. I think the pipes must have expanded due to the extremely cold temperatures recently.

I was standing there for over an hour with 5 or 6 people all yelling frantically in Ukrainian lol. In the end, the head of the building let me know that our downstair neighbors asked for our key, but I would under no circumstances give it to them; I am convinced they'll steal my stuff, because they're absolutely insane. I decided to give it to the head of the building whom I trust because she's friends with Slavik's mother (she used to be my MIL's teacher). It is clear that she's become too old to have this job, she also seemed shook when I met her today, so I just hope my crazy downstair neighbors don't talk her into giving it to them.

It's night now, so someone will come and fix the valve tomorrow. Afterwards I guess we'll try to agree on a price, but I worry my neighbors will attempt to screw us over because they know Slavik can't take it to court due to the conscription. Even if they don't screw us over, we can't afford it; we're still in huge debt and can hardly afford to eat.

I don't even know how my blood pressure is still under 200, I just drown myself in chamomile tea lol. This is literally the worst thing that could happen, I have no idea what to do. It sucks. Sometimes there are so many problems I feel like it's all a dream. I just can't deal with all this, and together with the recent attacks; no electricity and we can't even get drinking water now, who knows when it will be back, and my dog's epilepsy pills are running out because Russia keeps bombing our medicine warehouses. Idk, it's just everything. I have even stayed sober for over 3 months, but I could really go a cold beer right now – yet if I did that, I think my relationship would fall apart too. I'm so done, wake me up when the war is over.

I am sorry this is happening.....I wish as all these appear to be like a dream, with the same magic like air, for something good to happen to you. Stay off the alcohol, that is good in itself.. Chamomile was a good choice. I am having an hibiscus tea...
