That's definitely the way we should be viewing it, sadly, as someone who reluctantly works corporate, definitely not how it's actually viewed,

NZ laws around days off are far better than some but even I fear a little if I take too much time off I'll just be replaced.

@GeminiDuality If we all viewed it that way it would be that way

@EBSVC sadly humans arent exactly the smartest creatures

People worry about losing jobs but why be loyal to some company that would assume replace us in a heartbeat?

Companies want us to think they own us, but screw that. If we were paid BEFORE doing work, it would be different but no, we are paid AFTER.

Maybe some are paid beforehand like contract work but for us wage sl4ves, after.

@HoeBag Exactly. We need to shift this whole thing around and make our employers grateful that we showed up to work for them. We’ve let them become so entitled
It’s a request because it can be denied - and then if you don’t turn up you can have your wages docked or fired.

@EBSVC And I pointed out should be versus how it is.

It’s a request, because it can be denied.

It’s nice to dream but at some point you have to go back to reality.

Now I'd like to know what you have to say about taxes, because.. 😬
If only life in society was this easy and logical.

@EBSVC I'm saying this because here in Europe employers have to pay monthly fees for healthcare and social insurance and if you asked for the unpaid leave, they would have to sign you off and then in again, that's why you announce a sick day because it's basically a paid leave, so even if you're not working, they still pay you and for you. If the system was more flexible and it would be easier to just do that, I'd see no problem but the way it is now, it would probably cause a great chaos in the insurance companies. That's why employers are entitled to your time. They would not if you were self-employed, paying the insurance yourself and offer your services as it suits you.

@CrazyMusicLover Sure. There’s always reasons. But if we shift the way we act they’ll have to respond by changing how they do things
