I think working on vehicles and being so close to machinists for so long changes my views on the world a bit
For example I don't really see guns as guns but as finely machined parts in an assembly.
I see daimonds, gold, and precious metals more like finely machined materials that were extremely risky to work with. Stock materials to machine. A watch is like that to me.
I especially get this impression on car parts.
I just think I appreciate craftsmanship more than before. I still see them the same way as before but my appreciation is far greater I think than other people because I know more about the details that were involved in manufacturing maybe.
It's like I used to see an engine block first and the material finish later but now I see the material finish first and the engine block afterwards.
