The things my dad taught me, were: how to swim, run and fight

I'm not good at any of those things

He also nurtured me to make art (but later kinda shamed me for it)

How to identify mushrooms, cook, about other languages, a bit about fixing and building... And probably more.

My mum taught me about plants and animals, but not much else unfortunately.

It's interesting that my dad was there less (he never was with us for a space of five years consecutively), but taught me more.

Is it because I missed him and committed it more to memory, or because he really did?

I don't know.

My dad was also a drug addict (meth and coke that I know), and an alcoholic.

My mum drank sometimes and smoked a lotttt of weed to numb, and slept even more. And when my dad didn't send money, I was the one that was asked for it. I started working at 12 or so and it was okay but also kinda what the heeeey

You took everything beautiful they had to offer and amplified it. I hardly know you at all, and still I associate your name with kindness and gentleness and creativity and curiosity and just simple goodness. You’re one of the miracles of this world, one of the flowers that blooms in a desert. Most folks don’t see the best of themselves, but I hope you can see sometimes the good that you put out into the world in spite of all those obstacles and it can bring you happiness. 🙂
