My sense of self has been lost.

Sense of self can mean a number of things.

In this case I'll tell you what I mean.

I used to enjoy driving and listening to music. It was relaxing. Not anymore. Yes it's enjoyable. It's also lonely. What's the point of it, if the experience will terminate at myself? Someday I will die and all those memories will be forgotten. Terminated.

I used to enjoy playing video games by myself. Not anymore.

I used to enjoy having worked a productive job.

There used to be this sense I had that if I enjoyed something, it was important.

No. I'm just another ant on this hill. My story will be forgotten like so many others.

It bothers me too, but in the end of the day we're all in the same boat together. I for instance like collecting, but what is a collection when the collecter is gone? It becomes nothing, hence the point is what it is in life; something you can show people, or simply enjoy for yourself, while you're still here.

There are three things worth doing in life:

1. The things we do which are only
important in life.

2. The things we which are important after life.

3. The things we do which stay after life.

1. Video games, music, collections, all the things you enjoy by yourself, which only serve a purpose while you're still alive – these are important because the purpose they serve is to give you a sense of self, which in turn makes you interesting to the people around you. You cannot just stop caring about yourself and your life, because you realize that life will end one day.

2. The things we do which are important after life, includes helping other people, being part of positive movements, and teaching, the things we do for others. The things we do to make the world a better place. The world was turning before you were born, and it will continue turning after you're gone. Every single action towards a positive change, counts for whose lives starts after yours is over. Consider every decision you take, which affects other people, a grain of sand on the beach; we each have a responsibility to make every grain beautiful, for the beach to become a lovely place for future generations to visit.

3. The things we do which stay after life, are the things we create. Art, novels, photographs, even videos. We don't know how long they will stay, if the human race will die completely one day, or figure out a way to prevent the earth and sun colliding – who knows, maybe there'll be an internet archive of "things that were created before immortality" haha. You'll never know, but this is your greatest chance to be remembered.
