Today I literally talked with a foreign woman in the neighborhood where I live. Do you find it crazy too?
Yeah usually i approach foreign expat women in cosmopolitan or more upscale and trendy parts of our city Bangalore in India like Indiranagar, UB City, Lavelle road, Church Street etc like the Swedish woman I approached yesterday in this Cafe in Indiranagar but today the most unexpected thing happened. In our neighborhood Munnekolala where i stay which is just a residential area of our city surrounded by IT hubs, the population is mainly Indians and you don't see foreigners here and its more local but today I saw this African woman here going to the grocery store to buy some vegetables.
I confidently approached her and she was responsive. We had a conversation. She said she is from Africa but didnt mention which African country. I said her about my MBA and she is a hairstylist here. Her hair is pink in color and she showed her hair and that this is how she styles them. I said her hair looks good. So we talked about Bangalore life and just general things that I am trying to socialize with new people and all. Then we ended the conversation with a handshake and said nice to meet you.
What makes this crazy is its closer to my home and I live with parents. I have been living here since 2008 ever since we came to Bangalore(i am from Siliguri in West Bengal tho) and some locals, shopkeepers and Bengali migrants who are my parents friend knows us so there is this risk of gossip and my parents getting to know(sadly in India this happens sometimes and people worry too much about what will people think). I am 24 and an adult but in India things can be different. In UB City or Lavelle road, its less risky as these spots are more cosmopolitan and international and foreigners are common there and Indians are open minded too so people mostly mind their own business and my home is quite far from there so there is more anonymity there. Also in Munnekolala my school was where i was bullied and some local boys used to to try to intimidate me back then too so today talking to the African woman shows how confident and brave i became.
