Social enforcement
Did you notice IG is basically an unwritten law? For example, the Constitution is the official law and is enforced, but IG is a de facto one. Basically, the IG lifestyle is the benchmark for how life should be. Proof? You get policed for deviating. Whether it’s appearance, lifestyle, or status. Let a girl deviate from the ‘look,’ and she will be criticized immediately. Or let a guy not reach a certain financial level, and the same happens. Look how homeless people are treated. Sure, one can ignore the comments, but wont change the fact u still gonna get them.
its no different like back in segregation days. one can whine all they want bout how whites were evil, which doesnt change the fact, discrimination of blacks was the societal norm. so a person may be unpleasant or judgmental, but the reason you’re “getting checked” isn’t just about them perosnally - it’s about the cultural standard Instagram has normalized.
im rel. young , 31 , so maybe older people may not see it that way, but i feel for my group and younger its real
