How did you get over heartbreak?

The love of my life is gone from my life for the last 18 months. Everything was my fault for breaking it off with him, but he promised me we would always be good friends before he developed a relationship with his bride. I thought even though we were no longer in a romantic relationship we would always be friends and stay in each others’ lives. I could have swallowed my feelings and just been his friend for the sake of him and his wife.
