Reminds me of the Calgary Stampede. I've been in Calgary several times during stampede week and even stayed at a hotel 5 minutes away if I walked rather smartly, but somehow I just could never bring myself to walk in through the front gate of the stampede grounds when I'd look through the fence and see all the girls inside wearing red cowboy hats, flannel shirts, skin-tight denim shorts and white cowboy boots.
Somehow and probably with some shame, I have managed to misplace those genetic links that otherwise would have helped me to self-identify as a Canadian city girl pretending to be a cowgirl, even for a day.
I've worn a lot of questionable outfits in my day, but a wanna-be Shania Twain look-alike cowgirl suit was never been one of them. 🇨🇦

@swirlie I have been to the Stampede more than once. A friend of mine was bronc rider so I had to watch. You have to be pretty good to make the Stampede so.... A year or two later he was at the stampede again and got bucked off. He spent a few weeks in the hospital recovering from a broken leg.

I totally get that whole experience. I was in Arizona a while back and met a young guy who was a professional bronc rider, who said his back was destroyed by the time he was 20, not to mention a few broken bones in other places that didn't matter!

@swirlie Yeah dealing with 1000 lbs angry animals is not a recipe for a long and healthy life. I was amazed Phil kept it up as long as he did. My cousin was a rodeo clown. He would distract the bulls when the rider dismounted. Fearless and very athletic. He was on demand at the big name rodeos. He had his share of breaks and scrapes.

@BrandNewMan I can appreciate the skills the cowboys and cowgirls have but not really into sports. I did grow up on a farm/ranch and developed some of the skills on display at a rodeo but I had reason to do what I did without trying to be entertaining.
