From scrap parts
A teenager in Sierra Leone built a fully functional radio station from parts he found in the garbage.
His name is Kelvin Doe, but on the airwaves, he was known as DJ Focus. Growing up in a neighborhood with unreliable electricity, he was determined to make a difference.
He taught himself engineering and started scavenging for discarded electronics around his community. With these broken and thrown-away parts, he built his own batteries to power lights in people’s homes.
Then, at just 15 years old, he did something incredible. He constructed his own radio transmitter and generator, all from scrap metal and secondhand components.
He launched his own community radio station right from his house. He played music, broadcast news, and even hosted programs where community members could call in and debate important issues.
His station became a voice for his neighborhood. 📻
His ingenuity caught the attention of an MIT student who helped bring him to the United States. In 2012, Kelvin Doe became the youngest person in history to be invited to MIT's "Visiting Practitioner's Program."
He went on to give lectures at Harvard and was a speaker at TEDxTeen. His story shows what's possible with determination and a refusal to accept limitations. 🧠 #Innovation #YouthEmpowerment #Inspiration #fblifestyle
