I greeted these 2 black men too and this is how they reacted. Was this wrong of me?

So as I mentioned in my previous post, I went to this UB City mall in our city Bangalore in India and many foreigners visit it. So not only foreign expat women but also at first in the mall I saw this black man being accompanied by an Indian man. He was most definitely a black American judging by his Western accent. So I greeted him showing the hand gesture (pointing my thumb finger, index and middle finger and keeping my last 2 fingers folded) which is like my bro code or bro sign and then said him "Ayo man". He gave a surprised smile to me and kept looking back at me. He didn't say anything but my greeting seemed to have surprised him and he was looking at me so many times. I guess he didn't expect an Indian dude like me to to show him to greet him like that haha.

Then few hours later I went to the metro station which is next to another cosmopolitan area of Bangalore named Church Street. I saw a black man with his family heading towards Church Street. As usual I greeted him using the same hand gesture and said him Ayo man but he was confused too and he directly asked me whats that. He is probably African judging by his accent, I explained him that it was just me greeting him but then he asked me "What?" in a confused tone and then I said "umm nothing" and walked away and he did too and was telling to his family about my hand gesture. But it was almost similar to how that African(Nigerian) man in this hospital almost 2 months ago confronted me due to confusion when I showed him the hand gesture and greeted him. Its crazy tho how they are confident enough to confront and question me in my own country even though they are the foreigners here.

Maybe it means something different in their country and you may be offending them somehow
