A lady I know

She is in our church and she loves to talk about how hard done by she is by all her friends and acquaintances. To listen to her you would get the impression that every one she knows wants to fight with her. Her latest tirade got me thinking. If you are constantly fighting with your neighbours whose fault is it? I can understand that you have a neighbour who is a not nice guy and so you don't get along with them but when you don't get along with any of your neighbours likely the problem person is you. As one guy opined, "If you get divorced once it may be the fault of the other person. If you get divorced twice it is your fault". I think there is some merit to that statement. I have been applying that logic to the nations of the world. How come the US is constantly fighting? I grew up hearing the US nonsense about Vietnam, but the US never learned its lessons and has been fighting wars all over the world ever since. Very strange behaviour from a nation that thinks it is a beacon of democracy. Of course the same logic applies to Israel. It simply refuses to live in peace as it has ambitions of occupying most of the Middle East. Very strange behaviour and even more strange is the people who support the warmongers amongst them.

i think Trump is trying to get us out of unnecessary wars. remember war means money to a lot of people...and then you have countries like Russia, China and North Korea who just continually stir the pot...and the middle east

@akindheart Funny how the US propaganda is always saying it is the other guys fault. Russia stirred the pot according to US sources. Russia didn't invade Ukraine. It put its forces into regions that voted democratically to be part of Russia. Ukraine invaded Russia though. China is only doing to the US what the US is doing to China. North Korea wouldn't exist were it not for the US intervention in Korea back in the 50s. I kind of find it interesting to look at the other side of the coin and try to see things like the other side sees it. The US propaganda machine is all out for Israel yet Israel is killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in Gaza. So why should I believe anything the US press reports?

@hippyjoe1955 that is probably true, sad to say. i don't have the background knowledge you have either. i see the fake news media spin the narrative every day. you can tell what they are doing because it is obvious. but i do see your point.

@akindheart Sorry I wasn't trying to come across as harsh as I did but after what Lindsey Graham did in Ukraine and how his giving the green light to Ukraine to bomb Russian air bases without letting Trump know..... Yeah I am a bit testy. The world is on the brink of WWIII and people are not seeing the danger their out of control deep state is doing to bring about the wars. I think it was a big tell when Trump blamed Putin for the missile attack saying that Putin had no reason to send the missiles. Then he was informed that Putin was nearly killed by Ukraine. So who or what is informing Trump? Something very strange going on. It may not work out for the betterment of mankind.

@hippyjoe1955 i never took it that way my friend. we have talked at lengths in the past and you definitely know more than i do...so no harm done. i always read what you post. it is an education

@hippyjoe1955 I sometimes wonder who informs Putin too.

Perhaps both men - maybe the hard-liners running Israel too - only hear what their advisors dare tell them; and will ignore or shout down anything and anyone, no matter how reliable, that questions them or does not match their wishes.

In both regions the real casualties are the civilians, with so many killed or rendered homeless by armies who regard them, against international law, as legitimate targets. The rulers, in Moscow and Jerusalem alike, would aggressively deny that, but do they actually know what their forces are doing beyond the purely military fighting?

I do not condone them - certainly not - but it would be interesting to know what they are told by their generals of the situation in the lands their forces are attacking. Even though they would deny the truth. Perhaps the generals would dare not reveal the truth, for their own safety....

@ArishMell I think you really need to look at Putin from a Russian perspective. An American commentator recently said that Putin was a true Godsend to Russia. Remember after the Soviet Union fell apart and Yaltsen was running the place. People were leaving in droves. Young women turned to prostitution just to survive, Men turned to vodka and their life expectancy dropped dramatically. The US and the west were stealing all the Russian assets as corrupt bureaucrats were selling them at bargain basement prices. Out of that disaster Putin came to power. A trained lawyer and a man with a love for his country. A Christian man even though Christianity had been banned since before his birth. He then turned Russia around. It is now a very prosperous place. England or Canada should be doing so well. People are moving back to Russia and new immigrants and accepted. Inflation is low employment is high, However the US and Britain just can't leave it alone. They have to attack Russia for no known reason. Ukraine is simply most obvious conflict but the US and UK did try to foment a war in Georgia and other places. Those 'muslim' attacks in Moscow? Yeah they were the handi work of the CIA and MI6.

@hippyjoe1955 I do indedd try to understand Putins motives. I don't doubt his patriotism as he at least would see it but whatever good he may have done for his country he is also a ruthless tyrant.

Backgrouind: his parents survived the dreadful conditions in what was then called Stalingrad during the Nazi siege, and this may well have coloured his desire to be a good Communist USSR citizen to the extent of joining the KGB.

He even walked into its local office and asked how to work for it, when a teenager. The officer was apparently rather startled by this but advised him to become highly educated including in a foreign language. He became fluent in German and after graduating, eventually became a KGB Liason Officer to the Stasi (East Germany's secret police.).

He manupulated himself to power, helped by the so-called "oligarchs" and in turn he helped them, at least until they'd served his purpose.

Since then he has steadily clamped down on his own country, stamping out all dissent as far as he can, helped by the FSB. Even calling his "special military operation" what it really is - a war, let alone war by invasion - or questioning it, will land you in prison. Escaping abroad might not save you either. Think of Sergei Skripal and his daughter, poisoned in their homes in Salisbury by two Russians the British authorities soon identified by names and as FSB agents, but unfortunately not soon enough to arrest them.

As for "Christian" I do not regard it all Christian to support mysongyny, domestic abuse and homophobia, as Putin's pal Patriach Kiril would preach. This is the man who once called the invasion, "holy". That hard Orthodox line is, oddly, attracting followers in the USA, a country noted for hosting more extremist churches and cults than anywhere else while promoting democracy; and their attitudes to women and reproduction is neither modern nor healthy. More Gilead than democracy.

It's also hypocritical unless Valdimir Putin genuinely has converted from the hard atheism preached by the USSR regime.

It is not ever so surprising if Putin resents his country losing its former USSR empire as he is thought, since he was a fairly high-ranking cog in that machine.

Vladimir Putin does have a few European admirers, apart from his ally, President Alexander Lukashenko, whose grip on Belarus is if anyhting more despotic than Putin's on Russia. These include Viktor Orban, who was elected fairly and properly but is becoming ever more authoritarian despite his nation being a member of the EU, which seeks to prevent such occurrences. And possibly, President Erdogan of Turkey, also becoming more and more dictarorial and notorisouly one of the world's worst countries at jailin journalists. Tyrants are essentialy cowards terrified of being questioned, investigated, argued against - but at presidential level have the means to protect themselves.

(We are seeing similar in Israel, with its government being driven by hard-line factions with a desire to destroy Palestine as strong as the Hamas' drive to destroy Israel. The difference is that Israel is supposed to be a properly-constituted democratic nation; Hamas makes no pretence at being basically any more than an anti-libertarian gang driven by power.)

Putin is not only attacking Ukraine. His men are also attacking Europe by physical sabotage, and the USA and Europe by Internet interference.

After the fall of the USSR, Russia was briefly friendly and constructive, develping trade and cultural links with European and many other countries; but Vladimir Putin is reversing that.... for his own ends.

He is a very dangerous man with no respect for anyone but Russia and fellow-dictators like those of China and North Korea.

@ArishMell You watch too much BBC. Putin is a Christian not a communist. If you ever see him he has an Orthodox priest with him. When Trump was shot in the ear Putin was awakened and informed about it. He didn't roll over and go back to sleep. He got dressed and went to the nearby cathedral and prayed for Trump. Not as a politician but as a human being. You really need to wean yourself off of BBC. It is not you friend. There is a whole big world out there that BBC is not telling you about.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 I did not say Putin is a "Communist" - he was but he changed his tune to suit how Russia changed.

Him praying for Trump does not surprise me particularly. He does like,or at least respect, the US President for his views and apparent support.

What alternative news sources do you recommend if not the BBC, Tass and X?
