One reason I love them is that they outlive many fruit trees. They look ancient even in the spring , extending their branches ever higher 🌿

And tortoises are finally up again from their slumber. They sleep through the coldness of autumn and winter. It is fun seeing them hiding in dry bushes. They avoid clay-muddy lands because most of them are desert dwellers.

Cutie little curious thing.

Oh man that’s a cute turt. I see em every now and then on my property heading over to the watering hole at the neighbors spot.

@DrawntoaDistance Always makes me wonder if their eggs are nearby but I have only spotted their smallish babies , never eggs.
@Miram I’ve never seen eggs or little ones, but I am in some thick dense woods

@Miram @DrawntoaDistance The eggs will be buried in sandy soil most likely

@Jackaloftheazuresand That makes sense or holes, and I won't stick my arm inside no holes.
