In a rare move of actual competence

The South Carolina legislature passed a bill yesterday to consolidate three of my states SIX separate public health departments into one.

DMH, DDSN, and DAODAS will be rolled into one department meaning mental health, disabilities, and addiction services will no longer be three separate departments. Which was nonsensical and stupid.

My state spends nearly at the top, if not the top, on a per capita basis to get public health outcomes in the bottom five.

This move will eliminate all kinds of bureaucratic bloat and nonsense, create a cabinet level position to affect some actual change and hopefully cut down on the infighting. It should actually make the lives of the people here better, especially the most vulnerable.

The legislature will of course return to its regular practice of making everything worse for us shortly but in the meantime we get to enjoy some actual good news for a change.

Thats sounds pretty good. . . A rare win. But will staff be cut. That likely means longer wait time.

@exchrist Probably not many staff cuts, we’re already criminally understaffed

Not from SC but I'll take almost anything that sounds like a shrinking of the Government 👏

@Djac17 It isn’t really in the way you probably mean
