I'm not sure whether or not it was Google, but the navigation system used by some German tourists to Florida got them killed, years ago, by screwing up.
And it's only as good as the data. If they started with Rand-McNally maps as a basis, they had all sorts of errors. For some reason, train tracks were especially messed up. If you are familiar with Cincinnati, there is a huge valley for a large set of train tracks. Rand-McNally showed at least one road going where one had never been (over this valley)...it was probably a gap of at least 1,000 ft (~0.2 mi)...
And in Berlin, with water everywhere...good luck.
