Jack Kerouac Woulda Been 103 Today

From my kitchen window I can see a building where he lived briefly in 1947.

Ahhh – the Beat Generation!
He and William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, what an amazing trio!
Today's generation of authors is rather a de-generation 😏

@helenS You've missed out Neal Cassady, Gregory Corso and Herbert Huncke! 🤪

@ArtieKat When I walk home from the supermarket I pass by a house where Cassady lived briefly in 1947. Gotta wonder what those guys would think of Denver rents now!

@ArtieKat Never heard of any of them – but thank you, I'll put them on my to-read list! 🌷

@helenS I think Huncke and Cassady just wrote letters but they are in books. Corso wrote a great book of poems titled Gasoline. Got to hang out with Corso briefly in Boulder. Seemed like a nice guy.

@helenS Have you read "On The Road"? Neal Cassady is Dean Moriarty.

Wow!

@ArtieKat I was around Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky several times. Ginsberg once called to talk to my roommate and I answered the phone. I was supposed to give him a ride to the airport but he hooked up with a 19-year-old admirer and spent the night at an airport motel.

@hunkalove I've just realised that I lost my copy of "The Dharma Bums" a while ago and haven't got round to replacing it. One of my favourites

@ArtieKat It would be my second favorite, after On the Road.

@hunkalove Precisely! 👍
