Met a wonderful American today.

I went to church this morning and there was a fellow sitting behind me that I had never met before. It turns out he is an American visiting family north of the 49th. We exchanged pleasantries and then the service began. The worship leader began by talking about Trump wanting to make Canada the 51st state. Then I heard my new American friend say. "Not Canada just Alberta".

How sweet 🙄

Considering how liberal most Canadians are, if Canada becomes a state, no Republican will ever be elected President again. And the 50-odd new representatives will dominate Congress.

@Lila15 I think that many Canadians are not left or right. The liberals like the Democrats became the default choice. That time is coming to an end as the liberal/democrat myth is losing its allure.

@hippyjoe1955 I'm just going by things like Canada's universal health care, legal abortion, gun control, and other issues. Of course, it's a different country, and people might not define themselves as "left" or "right" in the way Americans understand it. A liberal and a conservative would look very different in places like China or Saudi Arabia than they do here. However, if Canada was a state, it would align more closely with the Democrats than the Republicans. If each province was a state, maybe Alberta and Saskatchewan would be Republican and the others Democratic.

Of course, this is just Trump doing what he does best, saying outlandish nonsense that forces everyone to pay attention to it. Canada isn't going to become the 51st state, we're not going to take over the Panama Canal, and we're not going to buy Greenland. This week, the big story is tariffs and the stock market tanking.
