You are as safe in that car as in any other built to modern standards - the real safety-feature is the driver anyway!
It is not particularly tiny either, it's a very common size now for two-door, 4-seat hatchbacks. It may look smaller than it is because it is rounded off, not a cuboid. My Renault Kango might be slightly longer but likely look larger by being a bit taller and more squared-off with a vertical back.
