Why Planning Is Important

Solomon is traditionally credited with writing Proverbs 29:18, which says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish”. They can't focus, can't reach their goal, can't follow their dream. An older translation says, “Without vision, the people perish.” I've seen it with my own eyes – without vision, people lose the vitality that makes them feel alive. People who plan are more apt to reach their goal.

Solomon was the son of King David and is known for his wisdom. His proverbs are said to provide guidance on living a life that honors God. Without a vision, people may lose direction and purpose.

The question that we all ask ourselves at one time or the other is, why are we here? And where do we see ourselves in life? We are here with a specific purpose, but what helps us move and direct our purpose, is vision. What exactly is vision? The dictionary defines vision as the act or power of anticipating what will, or may, come to be. Vision gives direction and a glimpse over our life to make our goals and purpose become a reality.

In order to understand where we want for ourselves in life, we must have a clear vision over our life. So, once you understand that vision clarifies purpose, life will become simpler and more meaningful. It’s so important to have vision and purpose, because it actually controls and makes our decisions, which ultimately creates our lifestyle.

You may find it is mentally draining and frustrating, being around people who do not understand where we want ourselves to be, or how to get there. The great thing about vision is, once you realize your vision, you may align yourself with people who encourage and support you.

What does the Bible say about a man without a plan?

One who plans well, will foresee dangers and avoid them, but the foolish person (a non-planner) will rush ahead, doing whatever's convenient, and end up paying the penalty.

Habakkuk chapter 2 says:
And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets..."

When we write the vision, we show that we believe in God and trust Him to bring it to pass. We also show that we are good stewards of His revelation. Writing the vision is an act of agreement that makes it tangible, and gives others hope, as well, as they see us trust God and see the results..

The Bible encourages believers to wait on the Lord, and try not to get ahead of him, expecting that He will indeed work out all things for our good (Romans 8:28).

God declared that in the face of difficulties and perplexities, we live by faith, trusting God no matter the circumstances. God's purposes will surely come to pass.

To see and understand your life vision, you need to engage in deep self-reflection, exploring your passions, values, and what truly motivates you, essentially asking yourself questions about what you want to achieve and how you want to live your life in the future, picturing an ideal version of yourself and your circumstances. This can involve writing down your goals, visualizing your desired future, and regularly revisiting your vision, to ensure alignment with God and your core values.

Identify your core values:

What principles are most important to you in life? (For example, family, integrity, creativity, service).

Reflect on your passions:

What activities bring you deep joy and fulfillment?

Consider your strengths and talents:

What are you naturally good at?

Ask yourself big questions:

Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years? What legacy do you want to leave behind? What impact do you want to make on the world?

Visualize your ideal life:

Create a mental picture of your dream future, including your career, relationships, lifestyle, and personal growth.

Write a vision statement:

Put your vision into words, making it clear, concise, and inspiring. Don't be afraid to explore your true desire.

Time is the most important resource we have, as it is the only resource that is not renewable. Time wasted today, we cannot get back tomorrow, because tomorrow is not guaranteed. Sure ..money, people, and opportunities can always come again later in life, but once the time is gone, it is gone forever. Vision will not allow you to waste time. It is wise to take what is available, now! Another opportunity is not guaranteed nor promised.

Habits are things we do every day. Most of the time, without even thinking about it, but people who are successful, are the ones who are conscious of their habits.

Finally, when we put God first in our lives and allow Him to guide us with his wisdom, we can never go wrong.

So much experience with this and so true!

A great encouraging article as ever, especially in the first year of my new transition with a new qualification and experience to bring to the table, meaning I can ultimately use this opportunity to the glory of God!

Finally, when we put God first in our lives and allow Him to guide us with his wisdom, we can never go wrong.

And this is the root of a beautifully written post.
