• ~ ✦ 3 Weeks of Cleaning Done! ✦ ~ •
This apartment has been inhabited by many different people, as it used to house refugees, and also stood empty for long periods of time, over the years. When Slavik and I moved in around 4 weeks ago, I made it my mission to clean it from top to bottom, and to some degree, even renovate it.
This apartment has 3 rooms + a tiny kitchen, bathroom, and hallway. When we got it to ourselves, I felt uncomfortable walking past someone else's living room all the time, so I asked my husband to help make it our own. He moved 4 giant, extremely heavy, old furniture; 2 went to a room in which we store all the owner's stuff, and he placed the other 2 against a different living room wall, for personal storage, and to make the space feel cosier. Behind these furniture, was a huge gab in the wallpaper, so we put up new wallpaper there, as well.
The owner of this apartment is a hoarder, and I can't begin to describe how much stuff I had to sort through. The following 2 weeks, while I sorted it all, there was stuff everywhere in the apartment. It was a total mess.
Finally came the cleaning! We had a moth infestation + a daddy long leg infestation, and many fruit flies, and I kid you not when I tell you that I kept finding worm-infested walnuts everywhere! I washed everything! I washed every side of every single cupboard, I washed and folded all the clothes – I washed the trash cans, the radiators, the window sills, the walls, and I hand-washed all the floors. This place is as spotless now, as if no one ever lived here. My hands are so raw, they would upset Gordon Ramsey.
When we started, we had no idea how long we would stay here, but I wanted to feel more at home. It has since turned out that the owner of this apartment is interested in trading with ours, next time they come to Ukraine, so we might stay here for good! 🌇
I'm so happy to finally be done with it all. 😮💨
