Right I feel like I’m not in the wrong but I need another opinion on this

So I was talking with a member of my exes family

He was complaining about Muslims again and said about how they’ve ruined the country. I asked how he’s come up with this theory. His reply was “well look at what Rishi Sunak did”

I stated how Rishi was Hindu not Muslim and got accused of getting defensive and told I was out of line? I feel like I just stated the fact he wasn’t Muslim?
