What's a sentence that someone said to you that hurt even though they meant it in a way that was nowhere near offensive?

My parents divorced when I was a kid, so while I mainly lived with my mum, I would go and stay over at my dad's place, too. My mum said this one time when my stay at my dad's was nearly over. I know she meant this in a nice way, but if I'm being perfectly honest, it kind of made me feel more like an object rather than a person.

Yes parents need to take extra care in what they say to their kids.. Parents have natural authority over kids so what they say to them is amplified in the minds of their children.. They can lift their kids up or they can cut them down with just a few idle words..

@Adstar I agree. Young children are still developing (both mentally and physically), so even just a harmless sentence or actions could affect them in a negative way, even if the actions can't be helped.
