So cross and sad

My Dad rang me today, he is 89 years old and has been diagnosed with leaukaemia. No one told him in person he found out by a letter. I am mortified cross and obviously devastated I am probably now going to lose my Dad.

What has become of the NHS that no one would have the decency to tell him face to face.

I really am struggling with this totally furious for him; he doesn’t fully understand the letter that was sent just that he has leaukaemia and a script for the first cancer treatment to start at home. 😔

Dave,

So sorry to hear about the heartbreaking news. That is no way to treat an 89-year-old man, he deserves a lot more dignity than that. I find that the NHS approach to the elderly is "you have had a good life, we are not going to go out of our way and do a lot to keep you going for long as possible".

That said there are different types of leukemia and hopefully his is more treatable. Hope you're able take him to his appointments and ask questions and be something of a thorn in their side when you go. (Do it respectfully though).

My thoughts and prayers are with you both and happy to chat in private if you like on this.

Hugs to both of you.
