I had paid for some previously uncredited retirement time (2-1/2 years worth from long ago...$2,000) seven years ago. I discovered it was never credited, despite money taken. I am preparing for retiring next year when the time in seemed short.
I BARELY was able to have the records from bank... would have been gone in 6 months... to prove my payment. The two involved depts could not find evidence since records are purged every three years. 😳
I was NOT a happy camper.

@Bexsy Folks do not realize banks only are req'd to have 3 years worth. Seven years came in handy and I was tres happy with them. One bank I adked kept saying I'd have to pay for research... finally one Rep said it was an online record - I didnt know existed. I could not remember from which I made payment (moved in meantime). Luckily both kept 7 years of records.
It irritates me when folks screw up and then make little effort to rectify their mistake. Grrrr.
