Do you ever meet people that are kind of a passenger in their own life?

Not really engaging with the world. Just comfortably accepting how things are. No questions. No introspection. Living like emotional intelligence and maturity, and curiousity are optional skillsets.
Every conversation you have with them feels like small talk, regardless of what it's about.

I guess I'm heading to that direction myself.
Wondering why is probably the same as wondering why some people become alcoholics or drug addicts.
Some things just happen and when they happen it might be a good indicator there's something bad going on.

However, only talking in small talks might simply mean that you're in their "soto", not "uchi" and they don't trust you enough to be open and honest around you.
