Burning, or flaying.
Injury to nerve endings is always going to be very painful, more painful than drowning or exposure to cold elements (examples). If you are beaten or stabbed, it will hurt, but less so than being burned or skinned alive. The pain may last longer with a beating, assuming you do not become brain dead or have your neck broken in a shorter period of time.
Starvation is also not pleasant.
