I once saw the pictures of a guy who fell off a balcony and unfortunately landed on a metal fence (iron?) that had those spike-like things on top of it. Apparently he bled out.

Burning, or flaying.
Injury to nerve endings is always going to be very painful, more painful than drowning or exposure to cold elements (examples). If you are beaten or stabbed, it will hurt, but less so than being burned or skinned alive. The pain may last longer with a beating, assuming you do not become brain dead or have your neck broken in a shorter period of time.
