How’s your 2024 been so far?

As I live in the UK, mine has been cold, dark, windy and rainy. Pretty much every single day.

I feel better than I did most of 2023. That’s saying something. 2023 is year for the records for me, so many new experiences and most of them nothing I wanted to experience.

@cherokeepatti Sorry to hear you had a bad 2023, but glad to hear it’s gotten better already :)

@DHggmu I feel better physically, have worked on getting my digestive issues calmed down, it was torture for months. Serious health issue still being treated, and I was in a bad car wreck that totaled both cars a week after having an adrenal gland removed. At least I’m getting out of the house to do things other than go back and forth to the medical center now. That’s all I did for a few months at the end of 2023. Just shopping for groceries and eating a lunch special at a Thai restaurant is refreshing for me now.

@cherokeepatti I’m so sorry to hear that, I have minor digestive issues and also had a minor car accident at the end of 2022, but that’s a really rough year. Sounds like you deserve a year of peace and quiet.

@DHggmu I took a lickin’ and kept on tickin’’. Just glad I’ve survived this long and am feeling better. I don’t take it for granted, that’s for sure.

@cherokeepatti That’s the spirit :)

@DHggmu I have people who love me and are helping me in every way they can. Besides my parakeet, Boo-Boo, would probably mourn to death if I was to pass. That little fellow loves me, he can’t stand it when I am confined in my room for a day or two at a time. He will say he needs to be taken care of over and over. It’s not that he needs food or water etc that he wants…it gets done by someone else most of the time now. He just wants me to come into the living room and sit next to his cage in my chair and talk to him and spend time with him.

@cherokeepatti You can’t ask for much more than that.. and I love that :) just sitting at home spending time with my dog is bliss, our animals love us unconditionally, always.

@DHggmu I didn’t know how attached he was to me until I got sick. He takes it personally when I am down and don’t interact with him every day. Yesterday I was in my room for while on the internet and heard him whistling to call me back. Sometimes he’ll go into his cute mode and start EEPing in high-pitched tone till I tell him he’s a cute bird. Things like that just tickle me, he helps lift my spirit every day. He’ll even ask me if I’m OK sometimes when I get up to do something or ask me if I slept when I was up after dozing off.

@cherokeepatti Things like this really warm the heart, they can keep us going when we thought we couldn’t. I only wish my doggo could speak like your bird does, I would love to know what she would say :)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@DHggmu yes I wish they could speak too. As little and short-lived as parakeets are they have a tiny little brain but can learn so many words, relevant tones of voice to express their emotions, ways to get my attention, how to be funny, how to use pronouns properly etc. I said they are like young children but their language skills are building by the week it seems. They like to watch me and comment on what I’m doing, ask some questions like “What will we do?” When they hear me talking about where I’m going or what we will do for the day. They’ll ask “What do we get?” When they see me cooking dinner and “What do we have?” Sometimes when I come into the house with bags of groceries. Like young children in a lot of ways.
DHggmu · 31-35, M
@cherokeepatti That sounds great, and I’m glad you have them to entertain you :)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@DHggmu They fill the house with joy as far as I’m concerned.
