Taking Big Steps
AKA, My first driving lesson!
The Universe has been telling me, this last week or so, to start on the journey (hope you like the pun!) on learning to drive - from friends and family - so, when my dad offered mid-week, and the comment came out of nowhere, I accepted!
So, a fairly damp Sunday morning. I get picked up in his, like, people carrier (I think they call them). After all, there's 5 of us kids...and then you add mom and dad...it needs to be big, right? But, first lesson? Bit intimidating!
Deep breathes, girl. I get in. We drive over to the car park - no cars, thankfully - and we have a little lesson. The whole ABC thing, the whole handbrake thing, the whole 'staring-out-the-window-and-checking-my-mirrors' thing. Scary. Very dry mouthed. Good job I brought with me a bottle of water.
Must have drove up the same 30m patch of ground a million times - well, maybe 20 - and sometimes doing alright, sometimes not.
We didn't hit anything...and I did mostly look out the window and not what my feet were doing, honestly! Lol!
Very nervous before....very nervous afterwards. We - he - drove back to Amber's and we had a coffee and a chat, a big hug and praise for my efforts...
"See you next week, hun. That was fun. You did great. Next Sunday, right?"
I nodded....and smiled.
