There is a homeless man named Curtis
He's lived around here for years. He is addicted to meth, and probably some other things. He can be scary and has mental breakdowns sometimes but he is usually harmless and polite.
He came into work today to ask if we could call him a cab. I said I could do that. Unfortunately the wait time was an hour, but I said he could sit in the cafe while we were open, and offered him some coffee and food. He took a coffee, with four sugars and a cream, but no food.
He has always been thin, but you can literally see the outline of his skull now. His cheekbones jut out from his face and it's concave beneath. It is so incredibly sad. He sits and talks to himself, and makes strange body movements, but otherwise is polite and doesn't bother anyone.
He told me two large men kicked him off the bus, because he was singing a song, and that he thought they were probably the ones eating all of the sugar and cream.
The last time my friend talked to him, he told her about a herd of hamsters that chased a poor girl into the river. It caused him a lot of distress and he didn't know what to do to help her.
This poor man. I wish there were a safe place for these people, but the reality is they are very hard to home because they can't take care of themselves. They all need to be taken care of.
I told him we were closing, and the cab would be another 30 minutes. I apologized, and offered him another coffee. He declined and walked out without a fuss.
😔
