You're walking down the street and you see someone you find attractive. How often do you actually approach them, if ever?

I'd say hi and compliment them on something. Can't really approach people without the possibility of them thinking, "Oh shit. What do you want? Are you friendly? Ect..." So I try breaking the barrier by just keeping my distance and opening up a dialogue, and just seeing how they respond.
