name a reason why people hate being filmed or recorded in public?

It's an invasion of privacy. You never know what someone will do with the recordings/films. Also, it's rude to not ask first for people's permission. In some places, it's against cultural rules or even the law.

@MrBrownstone Yes, you take a risk when you go out in public and can't expect total privacy.

Just answering the original question though -- which was why people hate being photographed by strangers. You never know where those photos/films will end up. Also, there are native tribes that used to believe that a piece of the soul is stolen when you photograph them. They used to forbid cameras on certain reservations, for this reason.

Privacy is nice. But at this point if they want to waste space on their phone filming me, that's their loss.
