'Ghosting/ghosted' in real life?

Do we all have that person/people that you didn't ever fall out with, but just... stopped making plans with? How do you feel about it?

I saw someone in the street yesterday I was friends at school with and we were even friends after for a while, we would meet up, go out etc. Then one day, the last time we said 'goodbye, see you later, see you soon' etc, we just never saw each other again.

I saw her coming first and looked down at my phone, concentrated on looking like I was crossing the road (and probably drew more attention than if I carried straight on!) To be honest there's a chance she wouldn't have recognised/registered that it was me.

I doubt there's any hard feelings on either side and if we did notice each other, would just have ignored it but it did make me feel awkward and anxious for a moment.

Have you had it done to you/been the person doing it? Do we all just appreciate that 'it just happens' sometimes? 🤔

I have it done to me when I was a kid. I found it weird and a bit hurtful then but later understood and have done it several times since. People often don't want to interact with you if they unexpectedly run into you and they are focused on doing something else, run errands or are just lost in their personal thoughts. I know I hate dealing with anyone at such time and it's the easiest to pretend you haven't noticed them. It doesn't mean I have something against them, it's just I'm really not in the mood to interact with anyone in any way at that particular moment.

I didn't like it but now I understand that one can't simply be friends with everyone... Always. I'm glad it didn't affect me much.

Yes I have a few, it feels really strange when I see them in the street.

Actually is for the better imo. Don't have to put effort in trying to figure out who is the snake and who is putting on an act. The real ones keep in touch and make the time to at least give a message or share something interesting like a meme at least. Ppl who ghost that's like a favor to me.

I don't think necessarily friendships I have had , but definitely some people I have worked with or been room mates with in the past ...

But the ghosting may have already begun while working or living with them...

I've changed circles a few times through life. Sometimes little gaps just appear in friendships, that allow others in. The gaps widen, and so forth. Not necessarily conscious, or even noticed at first.
I am doing a test to see if I have friends irl.

It is as I suspected...
Relationships (romantic or platonic friendships) have a best-before date. People change. Their needs change.

When that happens you don’t ‘click’ anymore.
It's the way life goes it seems. Many of the people who've been ghosted/have ghosted in my life I still talk to when I see every few years
