If you’ve ever been homeless I want to hear your story

I graduated high school homeless. Worked nights at a sawmill. Slept on a friends couch. The only reason I stuck with school is because I wanted to go into the service. I did. Graduated with a 3.08. Not great but not bad for being tired all the time. Finally got some sleep in boot camp

Worked my way through college (unlikely now) without scholarship, financial aid, student loans or help from home. Graduated with $32 in my pocket and a full tank of gas in my truck. Started a job in January in Wisconsin and lived in the truck in the parking lot of work for 9 days until I got my first paycheck. Was able to put a deposit down on a shithole studio apartment and pay for a couple nights in a dive hotel where the rooms on either side were rented by the hour.

In the end? My only worry was really that someone would see where I was getting up in the middle of the night and taking a leak in the snow. I actually had it pretty good... full showers in the plant so I was clean.

I can honestly say that I have what I have because I earned it.
