"Make your parents proud"

Poll - Total Votes: 28
I agree. I never liked that saying.
I disagree. To me it's important to make my family proud.
I am neutral. I like if my parents are proud of me but I'm also fine if they don't.
I am a parent and I want my kids to make me proud.
I'm a parent and I agree. What I want or think doesn't matter it's my children's choice.

I never understood or supported this mindset.
Why would my life be all about making other people feel proud? If my parents had me only to be a trophy of how sucessful they are, they had me for the wrong reasons. I live for me. And the only person I care to make proud of me, is me.

Do you agree?

there is no reason to be alive unless we are preserving the past, it doesn't necessarily have to be the parents but some ancestor is counting on you. We exist for no other goal despite what sentimentalists will say.

@Jackaloftheazuresand I heavily disagree.
The past can help us understand and needs to be remembered but it cannot be preserved and neither should it. Our ancestors have long passed and keeping them in mind is a nice thing but it's what I would consider the real sentimental thing.
Soren Kirkegaard put it well:
"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards"
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 then life is pointless and death is the only goal
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Objectively life is meaningless. Meaning is something we can create though.
But how did my argument lead to this conclusion?
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 Pointless is what I said, there is a difference. We reproduce only to keep the lineage of life so if you tell me you disagree then there is nothing else by default as all else is made up.
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Objectively it's pointless too.
We procreate to create family and because there is a bit of a biological drive behind it. Lineage thinking is no big part of it. Of course most things are made up and are human creation and societal constructs.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 So prove it to me and take yours
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand What do you mean?
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 Your words are empty, a logical conclusion but you don't follow them. By dying you will show me that life is pointless for real
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand You are indeed a sociopath.
We create our own points. There is no higher power or any instance that tells us what to do and why.
I won't procreate but that doesn't make my life pointless.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 Then you are useless to me. You can't justify your life to me nor can you justify your death
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Damn dude you are a socipath. Your lineage talk could be a Nazi talkingpoint.
There doesn't need to be a justification 🤦
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 There does otherwise you are lying
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand lying about what?
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 About life being pointless. You don't actually believe it
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Objectively it is. Subjectively everyone should find their own points that make life worth living.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 Then you have to prove it. Nobody ever proves anything they all just flap their lips and invoke as they wish. A muddled mess of contradictions
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand prove the contrary!
Fact is it is on the individual. Some believe in God, some in love and family,.... it's purely philosophic.
Your ancestor thesis is just Nazi shit.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 I did, life begets life to keep the origin of life alive. I live by my words whereas you do not
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand Yes life creates life but reducing the point of life to that and expecting to preserve the past is silly.
I stand by my word you are just not bright enough to know the difference between objective and subjective.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 No, you don't. One can not serve the objective and the subjective at the same time, you're a flip flopper who is confused
Annie13 · F
@Jackaloftheazuresand 🤦 There is no objective point or meaning. Therefore only the subjective views exist.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Jackaloftheazuresand No matter what you call it flip flop etc, it's still existing. And even if you think it's important to serve life and genetics it doesn't take away the fact that many don't. Many don't care to have children today. If you had no clue about that truth then I'm glad to inform you how the modern world works.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Annie13
Soren Kirkegaard put it well:
"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards"

This is a great quote! I 💯 % agree.

I respect my past and my families past but life develops forward not backwards. The modernity of today's world puts less and less emphasis on breeding and I don't mind that. Many women choose career over being mothers or even dating men. Today we have a choice to live an indvidual lifestyle outside what's 100000000 old rules and norms.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@Annie13 In order to accept the objective you would not value subjectivity. And you do. Since you do that makes you someone who lives in a fantasy. There is no reason to talk to me if fantasy is adequate for you but you still do which means you are chasing your tail in circles switching masters at a whim.
