Are there any benefits to working, as opposed to having a free ride for life?

Not sure where you’re from, but I’m from the U.K. and see it this way:
Our extensive and over generous social care system certainly encourages people to do sod all and take from the State, however it’s really not good for your long term welfare or self-worth. A job isn’t ONLY about money, it’s sometimes about answering a calling in life (like being a nurse or in the medical/care profession), excitement and the feeling that you’re actually making a contribution to the human race.
Add to that your financial independence and long term security of being a working professional and it’s really a no brainier.
You’ll also be setting an example to your future children that life is like a garden - the more you work on it, the more rewards it’ll bring, and it’ll be beautiful and worth spending time in. If not, then it’ll be full of weeds, manky discarded mattresses and half buried rusty bikes.
It’s really your choice of course…
