I am very open about wanting attention, but it’s pretty often associated with bad things.
So many people, as kids and adults, are told, even if not directly, that asking for attention is bad because the person they’re asking it from doesn’t want to give it. Like kids being told to leave adults alone, stop whining, stuff like that. And adults at work and in relationships being told they ask for too much and are too needy.
There are also the people who convince themselves they don’t want something (attention) because they feel like they can’t get it, or the people who are getting it have something they don’t.
