Ended up mildly angering a Mormon missionary today

Usually they are super nice. But I googled ‘secret Mormon handshakes’ and then gave him the secret handshakes. You are only meant to be given the handshakes once you reach a certain level in Mormonism which you then show to an angel when you get to heaven to prove you were a good Mormon, which then gets you into the highest kingdom of heaven.

I thought the church might have caught onto the fact that this stuff was readily available from ex Mormons on google and would have gotten rid of the practice, but as I discovered, no. Nice guy but he mumbled something about how I better be careful who I give the handshake to in the church as it’s offensive. It was literally taking your index finger and putting it in the palm of, and your thumb and putting it in the same place outside of, the hand of the other person. Representing Jesus’ nail wounds. The sign of the nail. Then I did the sign of the Aaronic priest hood, which was WAY too offensive. But no they are nice though. Just seems quite comical

Why mess with someone’s belief system? Even if you see the flaws in all of it, if they are fully in and seem to enjoy following it all… why fuck with it all?

Super religious people hold onto their faith through Lot of shit. My sister-in-law is super super Christian… she goes to church pretty much every Sunday and has bible verse tattoo and she’s just full in. I told her my beliefs/thoughts in a conversation once… my ideas… what I follow. She thinks I’m “lost” and that’s ok,.. I would never bash her belief system and what helps her get through.

Do you enjoy getting under people’s skin a lot? Do you like causing discomfort? Is it done for your own amusement or are you trying to make a point?

@WaryWitchWandering probably because I’ve been hanging out with the Mormons for years and we joke about each other’s views all the time.

@pianoplayingsteve but she truly is super into her religion and I would never sit and pick at her for it

@WaryWitchWandering I suppose it depends on the person, I’ve met many Mormons and Christians more than happy to lock horns on their beliefs whilst still remaining good friends.

@WaryWitchWandering but no I love learning and I’m constantly updating what I know by engaging with people who have ideas I’ve not come across before or by looking things up in an area I’ve not yet read about. When I’ve told friends I was meeting Mormons many gave me a dismissive joke on how I should run away from them
