A few of my students texted me today.

They said that they hope I get well soon because they miss me. 🥹

I know they don’t like the teacher who’s subbing for me. This particular teacher is nice enough, but students don’t like the way he teaches. I’ve heard many complaints about him over the past 6 months.

I’m still testing positive. It’s day 7. I can’t go back to teaching until I test negative, even if I have a little bit of symptoms left.

I hate being sick because I hate not being there for my students.

Get well soon. Plenty of rest and water so you could see your students again. They are so lucky to have you as a teacher.
marsbar · F
@GunFinger Salamat! 🤗🤗

That's sweet. You sound like a likable teacher and I hope you get well soon. I was just thinking earlier today how it was like impossible for us to ask for our favorite teachers personal number. At least where I'm from. Kids today are lucky. This was just 15 years ago. Sadly I lost contact with all of them bc of that.
marsbar · F
@SW-User Thank you.

Ever since I started teaching ESL in 1998, I have always given out my actual cell number. Now there is Google Voice, but I’ve experienced some issues with it before. So it’s just easier to give my students my cell number, as well as my college email.

How I wish my teachers did that like you. They were all out of reach outside school. I miss some of them for real. @marsbar

@SW-User A lot of teachers won’t even give their cell phone numbers. I have always asked my students for their cell phone and personal email in case I ever need to get in touch with them. They have college emails, but most students don’t look at that. I know a lot of teachers don’t ask their students for their cell phone numbers because we’re not really supposed to, but it’s the quickest way for me to get in touch with my students in emergencies. And I’ve never gotten in trouble for it in 24 years of teaching.

Take care of yourself. Your students, although unhappy, will be fine with a few weeks of less than stellar teaching. You will get them back on track in short order and they will finish out the school year strong!
marsbar · F
@LadyBronte Thank you 😇 I started back last week Monday, so they were happy to have me back again.

@marsbar Wonderful!
get well soon tita mars ❤️😔🫐 ur students are so sweet. can they give feedback on the sub teacher ?
marsbar · F
@Dewms At my old college in NJ, at the end of each semester, the students did a questionnaire about the class and the teacher. This college doesn’t do evaluations as far as I know. Evaluations of the teacher are done by the chair, when the chair goes and evaluates the teacher teaching a class.

I get a little better each day, but I still feel lightheaded and have a cough. Also my sense of smell and taste are pretty nonexistent. My home test yesterday still came out positive.
@marsbar huhuhu tita get well soon, do u have meds na po?

can the students tell the chair on what they think about the professor they don't like? 😬😬
marsbar · F
@Dewms I’m no longer taking any medicine. I’m just taking cough drops to help with my cough.

I don’t know if any students have ever complained about him. It really depends on the student’s personality and how assertive they are.

You sound like a great teacher - your students will always remember you in their lives, and hopefully your enthusiasm will have rubbed off onto them in some way in their careers.
Get well soon!
marsbar · F
@Oneofthestormboys One thing I am very confident about is my teaching and the report that I build with my students. When I see previous students at the college, they always talk to me and hug me. Then they’ll tell me whether or not they like their current teacher. Lol. The ironic thing is that this teacher is teaching some of my previous students, and they’ve all told me that they don’t like the way he teaches. 😅

Aww, that's really nice, that's something I can't imagine in my school years. Maybe it was just me but I felt like there was more distance between teachers and students.
marsbar · F
@CrazyMusicLover One of the things that I strive for is to build rapport with my students, and I am able to do that naturally with just my personality and the way I conduct myself in class. When students see that you are passionate about teaching and that you care about their learning acquisition, then it is inevitable for that rapport to be established.

I'm old enough that I went to school in the primitive pre-cellphone era. We didn't call our teachers on the phone.
marsbar · F
@RedBaron Neither did I.
RedBaron · M
@marsbar Why are teachers expected to give students their private contact information?
marsbar · F
@RedBaron We’re not. It’s just my choice.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
Hope you are soon better, I'm sure you are nicer than any teachers I had
marsbar · F
@TheWildEcho Haha. Thank you
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
So sorry.

I hope all things go back to normal and all are happy!
marsbar · F

@geoam1 A Little better each day, thank you. The coughing is the worst because the little bit of headache I have becomes worse because of my coughing fits.

@BeachGirl47 Thank you 😇

@marsbar your welcome
Aww, that must make you feel great
marsbar · F
@FreeSpirit1 It does. 😊 These are my low intermediate students, and they know how to communicate well. So when they say they miss me, I know they are being genuine. They also don’t want to say anything negative about this teacher, but the fact that they miss me, tells me a lot. Lol
